Strategic Project Management for WOW Results – Phoenix, AZ

March 5, 2019 @ 9:15 AM - 12:30 PM

Strategic Project Management for Wow Results (T08)

Traditional project management assumes the solution is known and your job is just to execute it.  Your task is to manage the time, budget, resources and risks to achieve a defined result.  Unfortunately, change leaders and LSS practitioners rarely have such a clear path and must create WOW results out of ambiguity. This session equips you to turn uncertainty into a compelling, evidence-supported, unimpeachable solution leadership will approve, support and deploy.

Most improvement and innovation projects start only with assumptions about or symptoms of a problem or opportunity.  The fastest, most optimum solution is not yet known.  Projects related to continuous improvement, strategic initiatives, Lean, Six Sigma, customer satisfaction, new product or service innovation and cultural change fall into this category. They are often high-risk endeavors that have fuzzy direction, high failure rates and low ROI.  This session is designed to prevent those problems and create heroes, starting with you.  It provides the tools and steps from creating a crystal clear charter through construction of a final presentation that is compelling, based on unimpeachable data and supported by qualitative customer input.

This session is for those wanting an organized, tool-supported approach that can reduce your effort, dramatically improve your impact and totally engage everyone on the project you are sponsoring, managing or on which you’re a participant. You may or may not win national recognition, get over 20:1 ROI, cycle time reduction of 80% and customer kudos for your efforts, but many others have.  You can, too.

Leaders of change initiatives and projects need a clear roadmap for selecting the precise subject of the project without pre-ordaining a solution (of the many possible), focusing projects to avoid scope creep, staffing and training the project team and its leadership appropriately, equipping the team with tools that are easy to understand and useful for many kinds of application, and assurance that the project recommendations and remedies will result in enthusiastic and overwhelming approval by sponsors and other leaders.

Teams using the methodology taught in this course have routinely been viewed as executing thorough, compelling and deployable solutions to significant and long-standing organizational and customer-experienced problems.  Any strategic or significant project is an expensive endeavor to carry out.  False starts, misdirection, unnecessary work and failure to get the team’s proposal fully approved are costly problems to avoid.

The ROI from a typical project using this material can reasonably be expected to average 20:1 within 18 months of project start.  Since no project may take more than six months to study and propose solutions, project stalls or dissolution are very rare.  Teams are frequently told by enterprise leadership that their proposal presentations are the best they have ever seen.  A number of teams have won recognition at regional, state and international competitions.

The intended audience for this session includes change initiative leaders, sponsors and project managers (with or without team members) from knowledge-intensive occupations and businesses.  All job functions will benefit, but especially managers, professionals and internal consultants involved with quality, LSS, product development, service enhancement, strategic planning, information technology, business development, customer experience, logistics/transportation.

Effective project management is a key part of any modern organization’s business management needs and pursuit of excellence.  Any organization that has established departments responsible for quality management, process improvement, product development, service delivery, customer experience, logistics or information management is an audience this course is designed to satisfy.  The more complex the business, the greater is the need.

Virtually all industries will find this session highly relevant, including service, manufacturing, healthcare, financial services, government and education. Those currently not interested in or not using Six Sigma will benefit because this course offers a strong alternative.  Practitioners of Six Sigma will be interested because two prominent weaknesses of those methods include poor project chartering and only nominal voice of customer (VOC) methods.

We'd love to have you join us.
